One size fits all?
During the Covid-19 pandemic, healthcare workers quickly started using disposable Personal Protective Equipment, such as face masks and face shields. However, there were shortages, leading to non-certified equipment being used and concerns about ample protection and waste.
To combat this, Dr Ruth Sims at the University of Derby lead a team to develop reusable protective face shields. These were to be easy to clean, adjustable for a wide range of users, and comfortable to wear for long periods. An optimal design was identified, and manufacturers are exploring large-scale roll out.
