Fast responders

Paramedics are usually the first responders to health accidents and emergencies. Ambulances carry a wide range of equipment, but not all equipment is always needed.

To prevent paramedics carrying heavy loads unnecessarily, Dr Mike Fray and the team at Loughborough University developed an ambulance bag with a series of treatment ‘pods and packs.’ These pods allow paramedics to select the right equipment needed in each emergency and leave the ambulance carrying a much lighter load.

With pressured and time-sensitive work, human factors has improved worker wellbeing without reducing the care provided to patients.
