Designing for People
There is no such thing as the average person. We are all different, through our age, gender, ethnicity, language, and educational background.
Our cognitive, physical, and sensory abilities all influence the way we interact with the world. A key part of human factors is designing for this difference.
One way to identify this difference is by measuring the human body. This practice, known as anthropometry, enables designers to document all our shapes and sizes and therefore design to accommodate these differences. Your phone fitting comfortably in your hand; a cup of coffee being easy to hold; the steering wheel in your car being easy to reach: it’s all because of anthropometry.
